Discover nature and history

The Kuinder forest, of no less than 1,200 hectares, is right next to Holiday Park ‘Eigen Wijze’ in Bant. There’s something for everyone: day campsite, playing fields, places to picnic or make a campfire, walking trails, cycle and riding tracks. On top of that, the Kuinder forest has a special mountain bike route and an area where dogs can run free. The dwarfs’ path is very popular with children.

Previously, part of this forest was owned by the ‘Waterloopkundig Laboratorium’. With each assignment, the laboratory built a trial set-up to scale in the forest.

Gaasterland is situated in the southwest part of Friesland. Here, you can find rolling fields and meadows, woods, centuries-old villages, ponds and lakes. Gaasterland is a perfect place for a bike ride, a walk or a car ride.

Marshland area ‘De Rottige Meenthe’ lies in the southeast part of Friesland, close to ‘De Weerribben’. This area is 1,650 hectares in size and exists because of peat extraction. At ‘De Rottige Meenthe’, you can enjoy cycling, walking, canoeing and fishing.

The former Schokland island, an archaeological monument. A place between land and sea, where people have lived for centuries, always in conflict with nature.

Giethoorn: Venice of the North. This ‘watery’ place lies in ‘De Weerribben – Wieden’ National Park in Overijssel. The many canals, bridges and lakes make this area the perfect place for a walk of a bike ride. You can also discover Giethoorn from the water.

Urk is a lively and typical fishing village. It used to be an island and is now a picturesque village. Cosy squares, characteristic details on the walls and many elegant decorations with anchors and ships. The small, monumental houses in a jumble of alleyways seem to lean on each other.

This old trade village has a harbour in its centre. Here, you can find lots of nice restaurants and cafés.

Experience the adventures of Hielke and Sietse and farm life in the fifties; discover the world of the Shipmasters of the Kameleon.

Children can play and discover freely at Netl Wildste Tuin’s large playground. Climbing and clambering and sliding from the mud slide!

Apart from special flowers and plants, the ‘Orchideeënhoeve’ keeps even more treasures from nature. Their Butterfly Valley is the largest butterfly garden in Europe.

Due to the rustic location between meadows and water you can enjoy an authentic rural panorama.

This restaurant lies in the heart of Lemmer and has an amazing terrace by the water. You should really try their surprise menu!

Chillers has a nice sun lounge and a large terrace.

Pier16 has the best view of the Ketel lake. They serve rural dishes made with products from the area.

Restaurant Centrum has an amazing view of the locks. Inside, it is cosy and homey and outside, there is a wonderfully sunny terrace.

From the covered terrace, you have a breathtaking view of the IJssel lake. Even when it is not sunny, you can have a great time at this restaurant.

Restaurant in a former orphanage with view of the port (havenkolk) of Blokzijl from the terrace. This historic place has Holland and Amsterdam influences.
